About the 40ft standard conex box
A standard dry container is the everyday workhorse of shipping and storage. Built from weathering Corten steel with corrugated walls, a steel roof, and a hardwood or marine-plywood floor, it keeps contents dry, secure, and out of sight.
Double cargo doors on one end swing open wide and close with lockable cam bars, so loading is straightforward and a padlock or lock box keeps it secure. It is the most common and usually the most affordable container style.
Why 40ft?
Twice the floor space of a 20ft unit for well under twice the price, making it the go-to choice for large inventories and conversions.
What fits
About the contents of a three- to four-bedroom home, or roughly 20 to 24 standard pallets.
Who buys a 40ft standard conex box?
Best for: warehouses and retailers that need bulk overflow storage; farms storing equipment, feed and tools; contractors with large material stocks; businesses moving or consolidating; and long-term storage of household goods.
A 40ft holds roughly 20 standard pallets on the floor. It needs much more room to deliver than a 20ft, with a long, straight approach for the truck, so measure your site before you choose. Want more height for stacking or conversions? Compare the 40ft high cube. Used 40ft units are graded, so see our guide to used conex containers.

Questions about this container
What fits in a 40ft container?
About the contents of a three- to four-bedroom home, or roughly 20 to 24 standard pallets. Exact capacity depends on how the space is packed.
How much space do I need to deliver a 40ft container?
Much more than for a 20ft. Besides the 40 ft × 8 ft footprint, the tilt-bed truck needs a long, straight approach and clear space overhead. Describe your site when you request a quote and we’ll confirm access.
Is a 40ft container cheaper per square foot than a 20ft?
Usually, yes. A 40ft has twice the floor space but typically costs well under twice as much, so it’s good value if your site has room.
Can I rent this container instead of buying it?
Yes. Choose Buy, Rent or Rent to own above and request a quote, and we’ll confirm what’s available for this unit in your area. See how conex rental and rent-to-own work.
Does the quote include delivery?
Delivery depends on your location, site access and the container selected. Share your ZIP or postal code when you request a quote so those details can be checked.
