40ft Open Top Conex Box for Sale
A 40ft open top conex box has a removable tarp roof on roof bows instead of a steel roof, so long or tall cargo can be lowered in by crane. It’s built for machinery, steel, timber and project cargo that won’t go through the end doors.

About the 40ft open top conex box
An open top container replaces the steel roof with removable roof bows and a heavy-duty tarpaulin. Pull the tarp back and cargo can be lowered in from above by crane or loaded over the top.
Many units also have a swing-away door header, which makes it easier to drive tall items through the end doors. It’s the right choice for loads too tall or awkward to go through the doors.
Why 40ft?
Twice the floor space of a 20ft unit for well under twice the price, making it the go-to choice for large inventories and conversions.
What fits
About the contents of a three- to four-bedroom home, or roughly 20 to 24 standard pallets.
Who buys a 40ft open top conex box?
Best for: long or tall machinery; crane-loaded steel, pipe and timber; bulk materials; and project cargo that’s too high for a standard box but still needs side walls.
Many units have a swing-away door header that widens the end opening for tall items. The tarp keeps out most weather when tied down, but it isn’t as tight or secure as a steel roof. For smaller loads, see the 20ft open top; for loads too wide for any walls, see the 40ft flat rack.

Questions about this container
What fits in a 40ft container?
About the contents of a three- to four-bedroom home, or roughly 20 to 24 standard pallets. Exact capacity depends on how the space is packed.
How is an open top container loaded?
Usually by crane or overhead hoist after the roof bows and tarp are removed. Smaller items can also go in through the end doors.
Is an open top good for long-term storage?
It works, but check and re-tie the tarp regularly. For long-term outdoor storage of valuables, a standard steel-roof container is more secure.
Can I rent this container instead of buying it?
Yes. Choose Buy, Rent or Rent to own above and request a quote, and we’ll confirm what’s available for this unit in your area. See how conex rental and rent-to-own work.
Does the quote include delivery?
Delivery depends on your location, site access and the container selected. Share your ZIP or postal code when you request a quote so those details can be checked.
