20ft Open Top Conex Box for Sale
A 20ft open top conex box swaps the steel roof for removable roof bows and a heavy-duty tarp, so cargo can be lowered in by crane or loaded over the top. It’s the right container for tall machinery and bulky materials that won’t fit through standard doors.

About the 20ft open top conex box
An open top container replaces the steel roof with removable roof bows and a heavy-duty tarpaulin. Pull the tarp back and cargo can be lowered in from above by crane or loaded over the top.
Many units also have a swing-away door header, which makes it easier to drive tall items through the end doors. It’s the right choice for loads too tall or awkward to go through the doors.
Why 20ft?
The most popular size we sell. It balances space, cost, and easy delivery, and fits on most residential and commercial sites.
What fits
About the contents of a one- to two-bedroom home, or roughly 10 standard pallets.
Who buys a 20ft open top conex box?
Best for: tall machinery and equipment; crane-loaded cargo; bulk materials such as scrap, timber or stone; and heavy, awkward items that are easier to drop in from above than to drag through the doors.
Many open tops also have a swing-away door header for extra clearance at the end doors. The tarp roof keeps out most weather but isn’t as tight as steel, so for long-term outdoor storage plan to check and re-tie it regularly, or choose a 20ft standard container instead.

Questions about this container
What fits in a 20ft container?
About the contents of a one- to two-bedroom home, or roughly 10 standard pallets. Exact capacity depends on how the space is packed.
Can an open top container be locked?
The end doors lock like any container. The tarp roof can be tied down, but it isn’t as secure as steel, so it suits cargo and materials better than valuables.
What loads suit an open top container?
Anything too tall for the standard door opening, or easier to lift in by crane: machinery, tanks, timber, stone and bulk materials.
Can I rent this container instead of buying it?
Yes. Choose Buy, Rent or Rent to own above and request a quote, and we’ll confirm what’s available for this unit in your area. See how conex rental and rent-to-own work.
Does the quote include delivery?
Delivery depends on your location, site access and the container selected. Share your ZIP or postal code when you request a quote so those details can be checked.
